Acolytes

St. Timothy's acolytes are heirs to an impressive tradition. Acolytes have been participants in Christian ceremonies for hundreds of years. In the Roman Catholic Church, acolytes are known as altar boys, but because the Episcopal Church invites both boys and girls to share this ministry, we use terminology that does not suggest a particular gender. Acolytes play an integral role in almost every service. They lead the Rector, Assisting Priest, and Lay Eucharistic Ministers into and out of the church, light and extinguish candles, help prepare communion, help collect the offerings, and participate in the reading of the Gospel. Acolytes receive regular training and encouragement for their important job. Serving as an acolyte offers a deeper relationship with God through a greater sense of involvement in the service. We invite all children 10 and older to become acolytes at St. Timothy's. Please contact the rector or the church office for more information.
