Worship Programs
As St. Augustine said, "He who sings prays twice." St. Timothy's choir offers those who would like to sing the opportunity to serve God and His community by leading the music of our worship. St. Timothy's music ministry is a very fulfilling way for those with the gift of music to deepen their love of the Liturgy. We are truly blessed to have Jimmy Smith as our choir director and Grace Choi and Marc Skuster as our organists. We would love to have you join them in the ministry of music. We invite anyone who is interested to attend one of our rehearsals. Please contact Jimmy Smith or the church office for more information.
The Altar Guild serves God by maintaining and caring for the altar and interior of the church. They Altar Guild prepares the church for all services. The members are also responsible for caring for the sacred vessels, and securing the necessary articles to be used at any service. It is the Altar Guild that oversees the decorating of the church duing the Easter and Christmas Seasons. The Altar Guild cares for God's house and welcomes all who would like to serve. You may find the Altar Guild to be a place where you can serve and grow spiritually. Membership in the Altar Guild is open to men and women of any age. Please contact Liz Piraino or the church office for more information.
St. Timothy's acolytes are heirs to an impressive tradition. Acolytes have been participants in Christian ceremonies for hundreds of years. In the Roman Catholic Church, acolytes are known as altar boys, but because the Episcopal Church invites both boys and girls to share this ministry, we use terminology that does not suggest a particular gender. Acolytes play an integral role in almost every service. They lead the Rector, Assisting Priest, and Lay Eucharistic Ministers into and out of the church, light and extinguish candles, help prepare communion, help collect the offerings, and participate in the reading of the Gospel. Acolytes receive regular training and encouragement for their important job. Serving as an acolyte offers a deeper relationship with God through a greater sense of involvement in the service. We invite all children 10 and older to become acolytes at St. Timothy's. Please contact the rector or the church office for more information.
The Greeters are often the first parishioners that newcomers meet, and first impressions are lasting. Greeters have the opportunity to personally greet each person coming into the service with a warm smile and handshake. They are one of the first impressions that visitors get of our church and they reinforce that all are welcome in God's house.Greeters also have the privelege of participating in the service by carrying the bread and wine to the altar and by assisting others with stepping up to the altar for communion. The Welcoming committe would like to offer you the opportunity to serve as a greeter. If you would like to serve as a greeter, please contact the church office
Ushers are a vital part of a positive worship experience for those attending services at St. Timothy's Church. They perform several duties including preparing the church for the coming service, greeting and welcoming regulars and newcomers, seating them according to their preferences, providing for their special needs, and caring for them in the case of emergency. They also help parishioners find restrooms and childcare services and provide any general information required. During the service they take up the collection and bring the offering to the altar and control the flow of worshipers to the altar rail at communion time. After the service, they asssist in straightening up the church for the next service and return the collection to the office where they count and record the offering. Each service is distinct, and requires flexiblilty in meeting the various needs that may arise. Anyone interested in becoming an usher should contact the Church Office.
The Episcopal Church is a eucharistic-centered church. The Eucharist or Holy Communion is the central point of the worship service. Lay Eucharistic Ministers assist the celebrant by serving as Chalice Bearers. They also lead the congregation in prayers of intercession and lead the recitatation of creeds and other readings depending on the particular Rite being celebrated.
Lay Eucharistic Ministers also take Holy Communion to the sick and shut-in members of the parish. There is hardly a more intimately rewarding ministry than assisting in the gift of Communion. There is a feeling attached to this service that is amost impossible to explain. One must experience it to understand it.
Lay Eucharistic Ministers are trained by the Rector to perform their duties as Chalice Bearers. Before they are able to take communion to pariishioners homes, a Sexual Misconduct Course conducted by the Diocese must be completed. All adult members of the congregation are invited to serve in this ministry.
The voice of God is an instrument in the service of God. Speaking the word of God is a tradition thousands of years old. The first people to encounter God's word didn't read it but heard it. "Lector" is the name given to those who read the assigned Scriptures for the day. The Ministry of the Lector is to proclaim the Word of God by reading from both the Old and New Testament at church services throughout the year. The reading of the Word is a most important part of our liturgical celebration at Saint Timothy's. We invite all who are interested to contact our rector or the church office for more information.
